The former, relatively small settlement of Stična, has grown into the leading place for a quite extensive area. The modern urban settlement has developed along the railway and highway Ljubljana - Novo Mesto - Krka and Krka - Stična. Exactly the position was the main reason for the rapid development of the place after World War II. Newcomers are attracted to the place by industry (metallurgy and wood), administration, health centre, school (the primary as well as the secondary), highly developed trade, craft and other activities going on in the community.
