It is a centrally formed settlement between the Dolenjska region (i.e. system of valleys) and Suha Krajina. The karst here is quite visible near sinkholes and swallow-holes of Španova jama. Agriculture is a source of income for a smaller number of people than it used to be in the past, while the majority find their work in Ivančna Gorica. A smaller stream -Višnjica- runs outside the village from Ivančna Gorica to Krka. The road has brought some life into the place.
There is a finally decorated church of St. Mary's Assumption in Muljava dating from the 15th century (frescoes by Janez Ljubljanski, the famous gilt altar dates from the early baroqur paeriod). The church is known from the times of Turks' invasion.One of their attacks took place in 1475 and became legendaryin Jurčič's story Jurij Kozjak.
