Šentvid near Stična

Basically centrally formed settlement has grown along the ways leading to it. It is situated in the Dolenjsko podolje (i.e. the system of valleys) in the midldle of Šentvid valley. It is one of the earliest parishes in Slovenia. Sources mention the place first in 1136 in connection with the raising of the Stična monastery, and then again in the 14th century as a market- town. The center itself is the Roman church of st. Vid, re-constructed many times.

There are two industrial plants in the village: the "Zmaj" factory, and the textile plant Rašica. Children with rheumatic and cardical difficulties from all over Slovenia come to the health centre of Doctor Marko Gerbec. The majority of people find their work outside the village. The place is well-known for the annual meetings of choruses from Slovenia and abroad.
