Stična

Stična is a centrally formed settlement extending on the outskirts of the Dolenjsko podolje (i.e.the system of valleys) just under the Posavsko hribovje (i.e. a range of hills) where the narrow stream of the Stična current suddenly opens in a wider area. The centre itself is situated along the stream, whereas more and more newly-built houses are scattered on the slightly warmer southern hillsides.

The Stična monastery blazon

In Stična there is the famous Cistercian monastery established in 1136 by Peregrin I. who was the patriarch in Oglej.

After so many centuries the monastery still preserves its spiritual, artistic and historical values and thus attracts visitors from Slovenia and abroad.

Let us just mention that the famous manuscript was written in the Stična monastery, that there are some famous paintings (by Janez Ljubljanski, Fortunat Bergant) and valuable books at the library. The museum and a smalll shop are at disposal to all visitors. Outside, in the village itself, there is a dairy and a butcher's shop. Still, most people are employed in Ivančna Gorica.
